Beef & Beer
A Beef and Beer fundraiser is planned for this Saturday Nov. 14th near the Hum.
The Softball Team is raising money to enable them to attend spring training in Florida.
The training is professionally run and will undoubtedly strengthen them for their upcoming season.
The Beef and Beer will be held at Berean Institute (walking distance from the Hum).
A large turnout is anticipated and you’re invited to join the fun.
Tickets at the door are $25 per person. Not much when you consider the great food, music and company of other Hummers.
Party will run from 7pm – 11pm.
If you can’t make it, your donation to the GCAA for the Softball Program would be appreciated.
We’ll pass along your check and best wishes.
Boys Basketball Team recognized in PA Senate
April 29, 2009
The boys basketball team and coaches were recognized on the floor of the State Senate today for their first-ever PIAA single A state championship by Senator Shirley Kitchen. Her office has arranged to send the school the portion of the tape that shows Sen. Kitchen introducing the boys. They took a guided tour of the Capitol after their appearance in the Senate, and were treated to a special catered "Game Day Spread" that included Quesadillas, spinach dip, buffalo chickens tenders and mini cheese steaks with traditional toppings and cookies and brownies, & an assortment of drinks. Served on the 4th floor outside the senator's office. They were treated like royalty!

Men's Basketball team in Pittsburgh...
Wow, what a weekend.!!!! OBIE and his teammates from Pittsburgh know how to treat visitors. A Great Group of Hummer's and Wives, that truly show their love of Girard and Hummers. Pittsburgh is definitely a city of great hospitality from what Den and I experienced. It's also definitely colder than Philly. OBIE managed a great event and the Basketball players from Girard really showed their love and appreciation of our OBIE. OB may not have been on the court dribbling and shooting but he handled everything else with great skill and aplomb. The team results were fantastic too. The Boys team won the TIP OFF Tournament Championship Trophy with a 72 to 30 win over the home team, Wilkinsburg. Our Girls won their consolation game for 3rd place with a 40 point victory spread. The most impressive thing about our basketball players was their conduct and deportment on and off the court. I was truly proud to be a Girardian associated with this team. Everywhere we went their was positive feedback about our students, from the hotel staff, hotel patrons, restuarant staff, and opposing teams. Our men and women of Girard served our school and our reputation as well as any group of students over the decades. This weekend was far more than a basketball event to Den and I , it was a one on one experience of the great work Girard is still doing in preparing students to enter the world outside our hallowed gates as great representatives of our Founder and his dream. I wish many more of you could have attended this event with us and experienced the comradrie of our brothers and sisters of Girard. We owe a great deal of gratitude and thanks to our brother's in Pittsburgh and this opportunity they provide to our students to be ambassodors of Girard. Class of 65 we can really be proud of our OBIE, he is Mr. Pittsburgh and one great Hummer.
